Tech.Ed Live Austalia

Welcome back to TechedLive for 2009

After such a great response to TechedLive.com last year, I’ve decided to once again run the site to give the world an inside look to Teched 2009, this year on the sunny Gold Coast.

If you’re coming along and would like to do some blogging for the site, feel free to shoot me an email. You don’t need much, a laptop (which you’ll be getting for free so that’s taken care of), a digital camera and some enthusiasm to walk up to people and ask them strange questions about Teched.

If you’ve never done it before, never fear, we’re not media tycoons so have some fun and join the Techedlive.com family for 2009.

Plenty of otherways to be involved – Twitter, follow me @glipschitz and watch for the tags #auteched.

Until next time…. Tech.Greg

Wayne Small flees…. no Battle of the Posse.

In fear of being completely shamed, Wayne Small has fled Microsoft Tech.Ed 2008 without stepping up to the challenge of having a Battle of the Posse with Steve Riley.

So, what are the totals after this whole week of shenanigans? Well Wayne put the call out to the community, and the community certainly responded.
Wayne ended up with a final Posse of 91.

And Steve’s posse…. well …. what can we say…

We had the pleasure of interviewing Steve after his last event, and here his thoughts about the Battle of the Posse and Tech.Ed 2008.

Well, that’s all folks for Tech.Ed 2008.

I hope you’ve all enjoyed the live coverage of the event and it’s been something different. It’s certainly been good fun for me, and it’s definitely something that I think I’ll be doing more of going forward.

Any questions, queries, moans, groans, complaints or comments are always appreciated. Email teched@techedlive.com

Until next year – Safe Computing.

Tech.Ed 2008 Closing Party

I’m really too tired to actually write anything here right now. The brain is fairly mushy after 2 days of full on Tech.Eding and all this blogging I tells ya, it takes its toll :P

But what can I say, tonights party was certainly something different…. Did anyone else notice the lack of sponsorship stuff or was it just me!?

Here’s a few grabs from tonight. Catch you all in the morning.

Water Water everywhere… just none of it in bottles!

OK lets be honest here people… How many of you are actually using your water bottles?? Show of hands please!??

Here’s proof.. Count how many FULL water coolers there are: -

(Need I remind you how many full Soft Drink fridges there are?? – see earlier post below)

Here’s a quick analysis:
Pros

  • Plenty of water around
  • People can drink and refill at their leisure

Cons

  • The dispenser water not cold enough (In my opinion)
  • Hygiene, how many of you are cleaning/sterilising your bottle?
  • Lost Bottles – How many of you have lost your water bottle already? (Tech.Greg – How many times have I found your bottle?)

So was this really a green initiative… or did some accountant do the maths and work out that water in 15L bottles was cheaper than 600ml ones?

How is Microsoft scoring on the green front..

  • We are still taking home lots of paper, and how much of it is bleached new paper?
  • How many of you are recycling your Soft Drink bottles, Paper and Other Recyclables?
  • When your water is warm and you want to refill, where are you pouring the sale water??

Microsoft’s green initiative doesn’t seem to be very green…. does it?

I guess if you count things that ARE green, then the backpacks certainly cover them on the GREEN initiative front ;)

Bring back the Mt Franklin I say!

What’s your opinion? Have your say in the Poll now!

Vendor Talk – GFI Software

Yesterday in a moment of spare time, I managed to have a quick chat with Daniel from GFI Software, the makers of the software that I love and use.

What is all this RFID whooziejiggen?

I took some time out this morning during the morning tea break to go down to the RFID guys and check out what they are doing with all this tracking information and find out a bit more about it.

They will be releasing some live data on CommNet some time soon, so keep an eye out for it!

Hi I’m a Mac… and I’m a PC….Or Are you…?

Well, this is certainly a bit confusing….

I saw the opportunity and just had to get this shot. A Microsoft Employee (sorry, I ‘ve forgotten your name) with my MacBook & iPhone!

Steve Riley talks 21st Century Networking

This morning my first session was with Steve Riley and he had a little chat to us about the notion of putting the corpnet in the cloud. Not Cloud Computing, but putting the corporate network in the cloud.

I keep hearing little voices in my head … or chirps??

So, what does this mean….. well here’s how Steve explains it….

Do you follow? Oh well, maybe you had to be there to understand it.

As always another engaging session from Steve, with lots of questions, lots of answers and plenty of twisted sick American humour! :P

Look Nothing Up My Sleeve!

Steve will be presenting a Security Chat in Parkside Ballroom A at 3.45pm today (after Afternoon Tea) and all being well (my battery not being flat) I’ll do some live blogging from in the session.

The Conspiracy Continues…

Well this morning we posted earlier about the Fridges having only Diet Coke yesterday…. but look at this morning…

It looks like the cover up has started!

…stay tuned for more as it comes to hand.
